Hello! My Name Is Payton White
Personal
I grew up in Austin, Texas until I went to college in San Marcos at Texas State University in 2013. After graduating in 2017, I lived in San Marcos until 2019 before moving to San Antonio where I currently live.
I have been playing piano since 2005 which led me to become a student of percussion in 2006. Being heavily involved in drumline in high school granted me the privilege to join Spirit of Atlanta in 2013 where I toured the east coast and midwest of The United States as a featured pianist. After my drum corps international (DCI) tour, I played mostly jazz gigs in San Marcos, Austin and San Antonio.
I have recently been able to pursue my dream of becoming a video game composer. Inspired by soundtracks such as Final Fantasy VII, Skyrim, Disgaea, and Persona 5; I aspire to incorporate jazz into new fantasy based RPGs.
Education and Experience
At Texas State University, I had the privilege to study under many well-known jazz giants. My personal studies were with Hank Hehmsoth where I honed in on my jazz piano style. I also studied under Russell Haight, Utah Hamrick, Morris Nelms, and many other jazz educators at Texas State, including the jazz drumming legend Butch Miles. I have been playing live music since 2014 in the central Texas area at venues including the Moody Theater (ACL Live), Gaslight-Baker Theatre, Texas State Performing Arts Center, Rock nā Roll Marathon, Monks Jazz Club, and much more.
